BREW HISTORY
BREW was born out of a simple but powerful idea: that a coffee shop can be more than a place to grab a drink — it can be a space for opportunity, growth and transformation. The journey started when Kahaila recognised the barriers faced by people from disadvantaged backgrounds in finding stable work. Many had the drive and potential, but lacked the training, confidence, and support networks needed to take their first steps into employment.
Coffee became the perfect vehicle for change. The speciality coffee industry is thriving, creative, and welcoming — and it offers an accessible entry point for people seeking new skills. Inspired by this, BREW was launched as a structured programme combining employability training with hands-on barista experience, mentoring and long-term career support.
In 2024 the project was funded by the City Bridge Trust for 3 years and what began as a small pilot quickly grew into something bigger. From asylum seekers to survivors of trafficking, from those who have experienced homelessness to ex-offenders, BREW has already provided hope and practical pathways to those who need them most.
At its heart, BREW remains committed to one purpose: helping people find dignity, confidence, and independence — all while crafting outstanding coffee.
